"Mama Mia!" – A Fun film – became the highest grossing musical in the history of

Mamma Mia! – 3 stars (Good)
Occasionally there is a movie that does not seem high quality to the song, the direction and writing, but trying to be what it is simply fun! The last of those rare films is "Mamma Mia!" Released in 2008.
Based on unique ABBA same name, Mamma Mia! musical theater has opened in Prince Edward in London in 1999. The original Broadway production opened in 2001 at the Winter Garden Theater in New York, and has a duration of more than 3,100 performances in April this year. Now it has become more than 140 U.S. cities.
Mamma Mia! was nominated for Best Music and Best Musical Tony Award in 2002. The director of the original play on Broadway, Phyllida Lloyd, is also the director of the film. The music book and screenplay are by Catherine Johnson.
According to Variety producer Judy Cramer and writer Catherine Johnson "broke out when first tried to put the show together. . . and now, are two of the richest women in England. "
This is because Mamma Mia! establish a new mark for the biggest opening weekend ever for a musical film – $ 27 + million. He also became the most grossing film of all time in the United Kingdom and around the world to become the highest grossing musical film, generating $ 610 + million, with a production budget of $ 52 million.
Combine the film with theater productions and Mamma Mia! reported 2 billion dollars in revenue since opening in 1999. Much of the success has to do with Swedish pop band Abba / dance group that has become one of the attractions of international popular entertainment from 1972 to 1982. If you do not recognize Abba must recognize their music.
Mamma Mia! It is a treasure of Abbot music composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, including "Dancing Queen", "Super Trouper, Knowing Me, Knowing You, "" Take a Chance on Me, "" Thank You For The Music, "" Money, Money, Money "" The Winner Takes It All "and" I Have a Dream ".
Mamma Mia! occurs in a Greek island where never married Donna (Meryl Streep) runs a hotel not very successful with her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who is about to marry Sky (Dominic Cooper). Donna invites her two best friends to the wedding, Rosie (Julie Walters) and Tanya (Christine Baranski), three of them formed a trio on stage at once.
Sophie, who never knew his father (his mother does not know well), is the daily his mother is 20 years and discovers that his mother was tied with three young men in those days, "Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth) and Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgard), one of them is her father. Not knowing that one that invites all three to her wedding and her mother was a crisis. Watch the film to see how it is resolved.
Despite having won the Golden Globe for best film and best actress (Meryl Streep, who else could it be?) Mamma Mia! took many shots at the time of review, not the least of which was "this must be the only music in film history up almost entirely of people who can not sing." It is true that the film not benefit from having the cast perform their own music numbers.
Mamma Mia! won major awards not worth talking about, but the excellence of the music Abba and the atmosphere of fun presentation can not be denied, so gave it a 3 stars (good) opinion instead of the 2-star (average) PAS.
I prefer not to hear Pierce Brosnan sing. You can say what you want on Meryl Streep, but remember this: She was named best actress or best supporting actress for 14 Academy Awards and won 2 Oscars, and has also been nominated for 21 Golden Globe Awards and won 5 times, more than any other actor in history to demonstrate either award.
Do not fight if you want a fun entertainment, see Mamma Mia!

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie – Widescreen Dubbed $14.99 The cult television series Mystery Science Theatre 3000 transfers its brand of science-fiction wisecracking to the big screen with relatively few changes. The concept is the same in series and film: an innocent man (Michael J. Nelson, playing Mike Nelson) is stranded in outer space by a mad scientist, who subjects the poor slob to “experiments” that involve watching the worst movies ever made. In order to survive this cinematic torture, Mike and his two companions, sarcastic robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, mercilessly heckle the film in self-defense. In this case, the target is This Island Earth, a 1950s sci-fi opus that, despite its silly makeup effects and stilted dialogue, actually stands slightly above the usual Mystery Science Theatre fare. Otherwise, despite the larger budget, the film plays as a shorter version of the television show, with the robots and sets purposefully maintaining their ingenious, homemade look. Despite its loyalty to the original concept, many long-time fans found the film less sharp than the series, and the cinematic version failed to attract many viewers beyond the original audience. Till the Clouds Roll By – Movie $14.99 MGM’s Till the Clouds Roll By is the musicalized, and highly fictionalized, life story of beloved composer Jerome Kern, who gave his blessing to the production shortly before his death in 1946. As played by a gray-templed Robert Walker, Kern is a likeable but none too exciting sort who expresses his emotions through his music. Constructed in the form of an extended flashback, the story proper begins at the turn of the century, as Kern tries to peddle his ditties to disinterested Broadway producers. His efforts to interest impresario Charles Frohman (Harry Hayden) go nowhere because Frohman is convinced that the only good music comes from Europe. Obligingly, Kern moves to London, where he meets and falls in love with his future wife Eva (Dorothy Patrick). On the verge of securing work with Frohman, Kern’s hopes are dashed when the producer goes down with the Lusitania in 1915. Fortunately, Kern has developed such powerful U.S. contacts as Victor Herbert (Paul Maxey) and Oscar Hammerstein (Paul Langton), enabling him to find success as the composer of several “intimate” musicals for New York’s Princess Theater. The film ends where it begins, with Kern’s triumph as composer of the Broadway blockbuster Show Boat. Van Heflin weaves in and out of the proceedings as the obligatory best friend/severest critic, a musical arranger named Jim Hessler (purportedly based on longtime Kern associate Paul Sadler). No one in 1946 really cared about the dramatic passages of Till the Clouds Roll By; the film’s biggest drawing card was its lineup of all-star MGM talent, performing Kern’s most famous numbers. Judy Garland (as Marilyn Miller) sings “Look for the Silver Lining”; Dinah Shore performs “The Last Time I Saw Paris” before a back-projected “Gay Paree”; Kathryn Grayson does a Rita Hayworth imitation with “Long Ago and Far Away”; Virginia O’Brien deadpans “A Fine Romance”; Tony Martin warbles “All the Things You Are”; June Allyson and Ray McDonald team up for the title number; and Frank Sinatra, incongruously dressed in white tuxedo, runs through “Ol’ Man River.” In addition, other musical contributions are made by Van Johnson, Angela Lansbury, Cyd Charisse, Gower Champion, and Lucille Bremer (cast as Van Heflin’s daughter).
